Rain, mountain snow, and gusty winds will continue today into Saturday across the Pacific Northwest.
 
An upper-air weather disturbance will continue to move over western Washinton and western Oregon today and tonight, sending waves of moisture inland. This moisture will fall in the form of rain for most areas, but snow will occur over the higher elevations. 

Rain and mountain snow will generally be light throughout the morning hours. However, another surge of moisture will arrive later in the afternoon and evening, with moderate to briefly heavy rain and mountain snow likely. 

Near and above pass levels, several inches of snow can be expected today, with 1 to 2 feet of snow over the highest elevations of the Cascades! Traveling through the passes will be difficult at best and dangerous at worst. 
 
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories have been issued across the Cascades of Washington and Oregon as a result of the expected snowfall. 

In the lower elevations, up to 1 inch of additional rainfall is expected today and tonight. While widespread flooding is not expected, localized flooding will be possible. This will especially be the case in the foothills of the Cascades where rainfall and snowmelt will occur. 
 
In addition to the rain and snow, some gusty winds will be possible. Wind gusts up to 25-35 mph will be possible in the lower elevations, while wind gusts of 35-50 mph will be possible over the higher elevations.
 
It’s never too early to have a supply kit packed in case of inclement weather. A simple kit including a weather radio, water, blankets, batteries, and non-perishable food items will go a long way in the event of a power outage. It’s always best to avoid traveling in rough weather as the roads will be dangerous.
